"Wait… this is a thing now?"
Hi! I’m Kaitlyn, the owner and creator behind KM Content Studio, and yes, wedding content creation is very much a thing! It’s also a relatively new part of the wedding industry, which means I get a lot of questions about what I actually do on a wedding day.
So for my very first blog, I figured there was no better place to start than here: what wedding content creation actually is, why couples are hiring content creators, and a little bit about how I ended up here.
So, What Is Wedding Content Creation?
The easiest way to explain wedding content creation is that I’m there to capture your wedding day from a completely different perspective. Wedding content creators primarily use a phone to capture videos throughout the day, with a huge focus on candid moments, behind-the-scenes footage, and all of those little things happening in between the major events on your timeline. Of course, I’m capturing the big stuff too, like getting ready, first looks, walking down the aisle, your first kiss, reception entrances, first dances, and the dance floor. But some of my favorite things to capture are the moments you might not even realize are happening!
It could be your bridesmaids reacting when they see you completely ready for the first time, your mom fixing your dress, your partner looking over at you during dinner, your grandparents dancing together, or your friends doing something ridiculous in the background. Sometimes it’s something as simple as your reception space completely untouched before guests walk in. Those little moments are such a huge part of what your wedding actually felt like, and they’re often the moments couples love seeing afterward.
One of the best parts of wedding content creation is also how quickly you get everything back. Instead of waiting weeks or months, your content is delivered while the wedding still feels fresh. You can wake up the next morning, grab your phone, and start reliving the day you just spent months (or years!) planning. I send all of my galleries through a digital link (some packages include a physical gallery!) that is sent directly to your email, typically less than 24 hours after you say I do!
Is a Wedding Content Creator the Same as a Videographer?
Not exactly, but depending on what you're looking for, a wedding content creator can absolutely be hired alongside a traditional videographer or in place of one.
Traditional wedding videography typically focuses on creating a polished, cinematic wedding film using professional cameras and audio equipment. Wedding content creation takes a different approach. The focus is on capturing your day as it naturally unfolds the big moments, the candid moments, and everything happening in between primarily using a phone and with a much quicker turnaround.
At KM Content Studio, I capture hundreds of video clips throughout your wedding day, so you're getting much more than a short recap of what happened. Depending on the package you choose, I can also capture your ceremony, speeches, and special dances in full, along with edited highlight reels that tell the story of your day.
For some couples, that's exactly what they're looking for instead of traditional videography! Maybe having a cinematic wedding film isn't at the top of your priority list, but you still want to watch yourself walk down the aisle, hear your vows again, save your dad's entire speech, and have plenty of video footage from throughout the day. Wedding content creation can give you that without necessarily investing in traditional videography. Wedding content creation is also significantly cheaper and laid back. Many of my couples choose to go only the content creator route, and that is totally fine! You don't need to be a social media star to have a content creator! In fact, most of my couples choose to skip the trendy videos and have only a "fly on the wall" approach to their wedding video.
For other couples, having both makes perfect sense. Your videographer can focus on creating your cinematic wedding film while your content creator captures a more candid, behind-the-scenes perspective and gets that footage into your hands quickly.
There really isn't a right or wrong answer. You don't have to choose one over the other, and you don't have to hire both. It comes down to what matters to you, your wedding budget, and, most importantly, how you picture yourself reliving your wedding after it's over!
And Yes, I Really Do Capture Your Wedding on an iPhone
One of the things that makes wedding content creation different is the equipment, and yes, I intentionally capture wedding content on an iPhone!
Coming from television news, I spent years working around professional cameras and video equipment, so using a phone isn't because I don't know how to use a camera. It's actually one of the things I love most about this type of work.
An iPhone allows me to move throughout a wedding day quickly and discreetly. Not every moment suddenly feels like a production just because I'm standing nearby. I can be right there while you're getting ready, jump behind the scenes during portraits, capture what your wedding party is doing while you're taking photos, and grab those little interactions that happen when people don't necessarily realize they're being filmed.
It also creates content in the same format you're probably going to enjoy it most, right on your phone.
You can save it, share it with your family, send a ridiculous clip to your bridesmaids, post it on Instagram or TikTok, or sit in bed the morning after your wedding and watch everything over and over again. And trust me, you probably will!
A Little About Me And How KM Content Studio Started
Now that you know what I do, I should probably introduce myself!
I’m Kaitlyn, the owner of KM Content Studio. Before I ever started capturing weddings, I spent more than five years working professionally in television news media, including four years at KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh. Storytelling has pretty much always been my job.
For years, that meant telling stories through television news. I worked in a fast-paced environment where you had
to recognize a moment, capture it, and figure out the best way to tell that story, often on a very tight deadline. I didn't realize it at the time, but so many of those skills would eventually become the foundation for what I do now. After a while, I knew I wanted to build something of my own. KM Content Studio gave me a way to take my background in professional storytelling and combine it with social media, content creation, and an industry I genuinely fell in love with: weddings!
And it took off faster than I ever expected.
What started as a new idea turned into weekends spent at weddings throughout Pittsburgh and beyond, getting to know incredible couples and being trusted with some of the most personal moments of their lives. That part isn't lost on me. When you hire someone to capture your wedding, you're inviting them into moments that only happen once. I'm there while you're getting ready, when your nerves start kicking in, when you see your person for the first time, when your parents get emotional, and when everyone finally lets loose on the dance floor.
My job isn't to turn your wedding into one giant social media production. It's to pay attention. I want to capture what it actually felt like to be there.
Do You Have to Be an Influencer to Hire a Wedding Content Creator?
Absolutely not. I think the word content sometimes makes people assume this service is only for brides who are constantly posting on social media, and that's really not the case. Some couples can't wait to start posting their wedding content the next morning. Others might share a few things here and there. Some may barely post any of it at all. The content is still yours.
You can think of it as having a huge collection of little memories from your wedding day sitting right on your phone. They're there to post if you want to, but they're also there for you to keep. Honestly, some of the best clips I capture probably aren't ever going to make it to Instagram. They're the funny, emotional, completely unplanned moments that mean something to the people who were actually there.
And that's kind of the point!
Is a Wedding Content Creator Worth It?
I might be a little biased here, but I also don't think wedding content creation is something every couple automatically needs.
It depends on what matters to you. If you're someone who loves candid videos, wants to see the behind-the-scenes moments you missed, wants your memories delivered quickly, or already knows you're going to wake up the morning after your wedding desperate to see everything...you're probably going to
love having a content creator there!
It can also be a great option if traditional videography isn't something you're planning to include in your budget, but you still want video coverage of your wedding day. Your wedding goes unbelievably fast. You spend months, sometimes years, planning it, and then suddenly you're standing at the end of the
night wondering how it's already over. You won't see everything that happens.
